The Praying Mantis Kung Fu Academy is a martial arts school based in Sydney NSW Australia and offers classes in traditional Northern Praying Mantis (tang lang quan), competition Wushu, WuDang Tai Chi, traditional Chinese weapons and advanced techniques such as Shaolin, Chin Na and Iron Palm techniques.

Shifu Daniel Wang Yun Kuo
Our master is Shifu Wang, a descendant of the famous Wang family of Shandong province in China. Shifu Wang began learning KungFu at the age of 6 years. His first kung fu teachers were Grand Master Wang Ye Ping, Grand Master Fan Shu Lung and Grand Master Qing Dejin. Shifu Wang has spent most of his life studying and teaching martial arts. He was a Senior Instructor for the Chinese Army for 10 years and specialised in training body guards for the Chinese Army. He is a able to teach both forms as well as the application of techniques in self defence. Shifu Wang is also a qualified Doctor of Chinese medicine. Read a profile of Shifu Wang

Wushu
Wushu is a modern exhibition sport based on traditional Chinese martial arts techniques. Wu Shu forms comprise of a sequence of movements requiring great agility, strength, flexibility and balance. The school provides training for both kids and adults to competition level and regularly enters teams in state, national and international martial arts tournaments. Read more about Wushu.

Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu
The Northern Praying Mantis system (Tang Lang Quan) is a traditional style developed over a thousand years ago by the martial artist Wang Lang during the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127). It incorporates elements of various Shaolin styles and is inspired by the movements of the praying mantis insect. Tong long quan is a very effective sytle of kung fu for self defence. Wudang Tai Chi
Tai Chi is the practice of slow, controlled body movements for the promotion of health in mind, body and spirit. Common styles of Tai Chi include Chen, Yang, Wu and Woo. The Wu Dang style (also known as Wudan, Wudong or Wu Tang) is one of the rarer styles of Tai Chi combining both soft and hard movements. Advanced Kung Fu Courses and Techniques

The School
The Praying Mantis Kung Fu Academy was opened in August 2000 and is located on Parramatta Road in Leichhardt (Sydney NSW Australia). We have students from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes, all levels of fitness and all ages. Our youngest student is 4 years old while our oldest is over 60. The school offers evening lessons on week days and afternoon lessons on week ends.

Benefits of Kung Fu and Wushu
For kids it’s an excellent way to develop a child’s self esteem and confidence while promoting fitness, coordination, flexibility and balance. There are also mental benefits such as respect, responsibility, courage and discipline. The best thing for kids is that it’s fun and great way to channel their natural energy. For adults, it is a great way to keep fit, lose weight, develop faster reflexes and mental alertness. Breathing exercises and the development of Chi in the body also has health benefits, especially for heart and lung conditions, stress, hypertension and high blood pressure. The study of Kung Fu is also used for self defence and Chin Na in particular is very good for women.
